Alterity is an Desert/Stoner | Delta Blues Band from Denver, Colorado.
What does Alterity mean ?
In the phenomenological tradition it is usually understood as the entity in contrast to which an identity is constructed, and it implies the ability to distinguish between self and not-self, and consequently to assume the existence of an alternative viewpoint.
As a band, ALTERITY is adapting this ideology to morph old school Delta Blues with elements of traditional heavy metal, psychedelic rock, desert rock, and doom metal creating a mid tempo groove laden bass sound featuring heavily distorted guitars, melodic vocals, droning synthesizers and retro production techniques.
Alterity originated as 2 piece band, guitar/vocals(Wyatt Leonard) and drums(Flip Longley). The two founding members met at the Denver School of Rock in 2011, become friends, sharing very similar tastes in music and quickly decided to start their own project, Alterity. Their major influences would be Jack White, Led Zeppelin, Son House, Robert Johnson, Junior Kimbrough, North Mississippi Allstars, Seasick Steve and several other old timer Delta Blues / Electric Blues artists.
Alterity has very powerful renditions of Ball and Biscuit, Death Letter, I Gotta Try You Girl, Stop Breaking Down, etc. As a two piece they are into playing very heavy electric guitar driven songs.
In the fall of 2013 Alterity has added some additional members, Bass Player (Andrew Evans) and Synth/Keys Player(Matt Evans). As this 4 piece they have expanded their song base into songs by Sleep, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Dead Weather. The most recent videos showcase them as this 4 piece.
As the 4 piece they are currently working on creating original material and are performing two original songs during their shows. The newest members of the band are also mates they have met at the Denver School of Rock program. All of them have been part of the advanced School of Rock group called ‘The House Band’. They have performed at Red Rocks Amphitheater the past two summers(2012,2013), In 2013 they performed before a sold out crowd as the opening act for the Film on the Rocks, The Princess Bride. They have participated in Vail Rocks sponsored by the Love Hope Strength foundation performing with artists Brett Dennon, Cy Curnin, Miles Zuniga, G Love, Mike Peters, and Big Country.
